Together here's what we were able to do:
We worked on 5 different homes for senior citizens and/or shut-ins. We cleaned, painted, mulched, and weeded. We heard their stories, we laughed and we cried. Perhaps most importantly, we let them know they are not forgotten.
We served at Our Community Farm by building, farming, and loving on those who are on the road to recovery.
We loved on 5 local nursing homes, carrying with us their precious stories and seeing the world differently through their eyes.
We volunteered in 6 different schools, appreciating those who work so hard to teach us so much.
We hosted 4 back-yard Vacation Bible School (VBS) sites each day ministering directly to kids in apartment buildings and trailer parks. We used music, crafts, games, and a lesson each day to teach children about the love of Jesus. Our students were forever changed and the slip-n-slide memories will live on forever.
We delivered over 150 care packages to Cargill turkey farm employees showing them they are loved and appreciated.
We served meals at the Salvation Army, volunteered at a local food bank, and worked at 2 different clothes closets and thrift stores.
We collected over 10,000 diapers for the Harrisonburg Pregnancy Center and Rise Church.
We concluded our week with a "Field Day" and concert event at Eastern Mennonite School inviting middle and high school students from all over the community.

VBS sites: Meriwether Hills, Mosby Heights Apartments, Harris Gardens Apartments, and Ridgeway Mennonite Church.

God is doing a new thing, right here in Harrisonburg, VA. What started as a small seed of vision in our hearts in 2010, has now grown into a field of incredible opportunity.
Youth mission trips to other parts of the country and world are faith-building and exciting but many of us have realized the need to start closer to home, serving here in our own back yards. RENEW provides individuals with an entry-level missions/service opportunity without significant experience or risk. The camp-style environment is an outreach to the volunteers as much as it is to the community.
During RENEW, volunteers stay overnight at a local high school and serve on practical service projects at homes and local non-profit organizations throughout the city each day. Evenings include high energy services with guest speakers, workship with local bands, testimonies and more. Each night there are also fun activities at UREC (JMU), skating at Funky's Skate Center, Ashby Pool and more. RENEW is where transformation happens through both hard work and fun!
With over 12 local churches and organizations involved in the event, we are discovering that together we can do something much greater than what any of us could do alone.
